Scouts

When SWAT teams deploy to a scene, the first order of business is to assess the current tactical situation. This is the job of the SWAT scout (along with assessments from already on the scene personnel and sniper teams). The job of the scout is to physically scout as much of the target as possible. (Most teams also require the scout to fill another position when the recon is complete.)

This may require considerable time and effort. The scout travels light and thus may be equipped differently from the main operations group. In lieu of heavy modular load bearing vests, the scout may opt for standard soft-body armor with a load bearing harness. This has advantages and disadvantages. The advantage is with lighter/less equipment, the scout moves quicker. The disadvantage is without the heavy modular vest, less protection from gunfire.
