Legends of Special Operations

Wegener, Colonel Ulrich - Colonel Wegener was instrumental in the formation and command of Germany's elite GSG-9 counterterrorist unit.  He participated personally in numerous such missions, including the hijacking of a Lufthansa Boeing 747 by a group of Palestinian terrorists (acting on behalf of the Baader Meinhof gang).  The joint SAS-GSG-9 operation that ensued on 17 October in Mogadishu, Somalia resulted in the successful rescue of all hostages, save four who were slightly injured.  Wegener worked closely with all Western CT groups, including the SAS, the U.S. Army's Delta Force and SEAL Team SIX, and many others.
