Howard
AFB, Panama - JIATF-S is our nations primary vehicle
for integrating U.S. Department of Defense assets into
regional counterdrug efforts in Panama and South America.
JIATF South executes U.S. National Counterdrug Policy
by supporting U.S. Federal Agency and Participating
Nation counterdrug efforts to deter, degrade, and disrupt
the production and transshipment of illegal drugs within
and from Panama and South America.
The United
States Southern Command (SOUTHCOM) is the unified command
responsible for all U.S. military activities in South
America and Central America. Its area of responsibility
encompasses 19 countries, represents about one-sixth
of the world's land mass and covers about seven million
square miles, stretching 6,000 miles from Mexico's southern
border to Cape Horn. The command supports U.S. interests
in the southern theater by establishing and implementing
plans, programs and policies that contribute to the
defense of the U.S. and its allies.

Small Craft Instruction and Technical Training School
- The U.S. Navy Small Craft Instruction and Technical
Training School (NAVSCIATTS) trains navies and coast
guards from Latin American countries in methods of countering
international terrorism, narcotics trafficking, and
smuggling.
