Branch
The units within the Specialist Services Branch have
the following policing functions:
Brisbane Dog Squad
Provides specialist handler/dog teams and Service
wide co-ordination of training development and the
maintenance of standards in this area of expertise.
Mounted Police
Provides a mounted police presence for proactive/reactive
policing and limited ceremonial functions.
Public Safety Response
Team (PSRT)
Provides a centralised resource of specially trained
police equipped to respond, in the interests of
public safety, to instances of confrontation and
violence beyond the capabilities of standard policing
and a highly mobile and available resource to instances
of large public events.
Railway Squad
Provides a high profile uniform presence on the
rail network to enhance the safety of rail passengers.
Provides a police intelligence analysis function
within the context of the rail network.
Special Emergency Response
Team (SERT)
Provides a highly trained, specialist capability
to resolve incidents which involve violence, or
are potentially violent and exceed normal response
capabilities. The undertaking of high angle rescue

Explosive Ordnance
Response Team
Provides an expert response capability in relation
to improvised explosive devices and other explosive
ordnance situations.
Brisbane Water Police
Provides a policing capability on and near the
marine environment (particularly in the metropolitan
area and main regional areas), as well as specialist
marine support to other operational police.
