learn all about the: engineer equipment, mines and
explosives, demolitions, mine clearance, ...The pioneer
para-commando will remain part of a squad for at least
two to three years before he can become a driver,
radio or plant operator.
The combat divers or "Frogmen" get a special
formation, evaluation and training, since their primary
mission is to prepare amphibious landings and river
crossings. Engineer officers and non-commissioned
officers also get their training at the Engineer School.

of helicopter landing sites
- mine clearance
- explosive ordnance disposal
- bridging
- route opening and maintenance
- counter mobility, assured
through:
- construction of terrain
and situation oriented obstacles
- minefields
- route denials
- demolitions
- general engineering which
is related to maintaining freedom of operation especially
in the rear areas
During humanitarian or United
Nations missions, the Company can provide support
to the Brigade in various areas (including amphibious
operations).
History
In 1960, the company issues
from the 1st Engineer Battalion, stationed in Westhoven
(Germany). It becomes the independent armoured engineer
company of the 4th Armoured Infantry Brigade, which
had its headquarters in Soest. On 24 April 1961, the
company moves to Arolsen, near the former inner German
border. The main equipment is the M75 Full Track,
which is replaced in 1984 by the US M113.
Due to the fall of the "Iron Curtain" and
the changing European security policy, the 4th Armoured
Infantry Brigade is disbanded in 1991. At that time,
General Staff decides to create a Para-Commando Brigade
based upon the existing Para-Commando Regiment, reinforced
by an engineer company, a logistical company, a medical
company and an air defense battery. In June 1992,
the Company moves to Emblem near Antwerp, to become
the Engineer Company of the Para-Commando Brigade
on 1 July 1992. As the Para-Commando Brigade is a
light brigade on wheeled vehicles, UNIMOG trucks replace
the armoured vehicles. Due to further reorganisation
of the Belgian Army, the Company moves again in May
1994, together with the Brigade headquarters, the
logistics and medical company to its present barracks
in Heverlee near Leuven. On 1 January 1995, the Company
becomes bi-lingual.
