In the early 1980's, the Army's special forces
training center, the Escuela de Condores (School
of Condors), began producing operators for a
new unit, known as the Polivalente. By 1984,
the unit was manned by 40 full-time operators
who were responsible for CT and hostage rescue
operations throughout the country. Initial training
for this unit was provided by the United States
and France. In time, however, the unit was split
up, with elements being sent to La Paz and Cochabamba.
It is not known if this unit is still in operation.
