Note: I am currently looking for information on
Georgian SOF and CT, however I do have some info on
the Presidential Close Protection Detail.
Close Protection Detail
Following repeated attacks on the President of Georgia,
the United States dispatched a team of Secret Service
agents to the country. This caused a marked
increase in the power and variety of weapons.
This training included a dramatic change in the makeup
of the Presidential convoy. Today, this includes
the following:
 |
Reconnaissance Vehicle
- drives at least 30 seconds ahead of the convoy,
keeping an eye out for roadblocks or suspicious
activity.
|
 |
Counterattack Vehicle
- heavily armed, manned by operators specially
trained to fire from moving vehicles.
|
 |
Shield Vehicle -
Usually a large Suburban-type truck, heavily armored,
this vehicle is immediately positioned between
the attackers and the VIP vehicle to absorb as
much incoming fire as possible.
|
 |
VIP vehicle - heavily
armored Mercedes Benz, donated by the government
of Germany. This vehicle carries the actual VIP.
|
 |
Decoy vehicle -
similar in appearance to the VIP vehicle, this
is intended to provide any attackers with a secondary
target in the hope that this will draw fire away
from the actual VIP vehicle.
|
 |
Assorted support
and police vehicles.
|
The convoy commonly travels at high speeds (more
than 80 miles per hour) and are able to break
into two groups in the event of an attack.
