The regiment is an light infantry regiment, currently (peacetime) consisting of a infantry jäger battalion and a recon jäger company, in addition to support and education units. 

The inf. battalion is designed to operate behind enemy lines, and is equipped to operate alone. Due to the terrain in Finnmark, the battalion uses snowmobiles and ATV's, in addition to Hägglunds BV-206for heavier duties.

The weapons in the inventory range from small arms, to 82mm mortars. Carl Gustav 82mm recoilless rifles are used against hard targets and fortifications, and the French "Eryx" anti-tank system is used against armour. The battalion also uses Stinger SAMs in the air defence role.
