Army Military
Police Special Units
The VJ Military Police also
has special purpose units trained for military
police missions and the execution of protective,
armed (combat) missions both in peace and
war time, especially for overcoming resistance
and destroying discovered and surrounding
sabotage-terrorist, kidnapping, and rebellious
groups. These units can act in concert with
MUP formations in defensive and preventive
actions for controlling people and vehicles
at communications facilities, as they were
used during the war in 1991-92 in areas of
the former Yugoslavia.
The Military Police is one
of the most highly prepared, and highly trained
organizations within the Armed Forces. Its
responsibilities include combating enemy special
forces, counter-rebellion and counter-terrorist
actions. Compared to other infantry units,
the Military Police carry out a relatively
large number of firing exercises. Weapons
are used even in peace, not only for performing
sentry duty, but also for stamping out crime,
securing people and facilities, search actions,
anti-terrorist operations, and others. Specific
training is provided for members of special
units of the Military Police, as well as for
for members of "general" and traffic
Military Police. Drills for Military Police
units, from squad to battalion, are based
on their anticipated tactical employment,
including the training in riot situations.
The Security Directorate of the General Staff
of the Army of Yugoslavia oversees units of
the Military Police.
