The Light Strike Vehicle
- Light but Ready to Strike

"This vehicle can go to more places than normal wheeled vehicles. Even in more muddy areas, this vehicle is able to negotiate through better than the normal jeeps and landrovers. " MAJ NG SIN AIN, Project Offr for the LSV.

The Light Strike Vehicle (LSV), a light-weight vehicle that is extremely mobile and agile, was procured by the Army to replace the jeeps carrying the 106mm recoilless guns. Manufactured in Australia based on an American design, the vehicle is able to access difficult terrain, and provide greater mobility and added firepower to our Infantry and Guards soldiers. Weighing at 1,500 kg, the LSV can be rapidly deployed by underslinging it with a helicopter and inserting it into enemy territory.

The LSV was inaugurated into the Army by Minister for Education and Second Minister for Defence, RADM (NS) TEO CHEE HEAN at the SAFTI Live-Firing Area, on 2 April 98.

The vehicle was evaluated over a period of two years, with slight modifications to suit the requirements of the Army. The tyre did not fit our terrain because we have more muddy terrain. The position of the spare tyre was also changed to give our troopers easier access in and out of the vehicle.

The LSV allows for different weapon configurations. It can be mounted with other weapon systems such as the General Purpose Machine Gun (GPMG), the 40mm Automatic Grenade Launcher (AGL) or the advanced Anti-Tank Guided Missile (ATGM). Fitting the LSV with an Infra-Red adaptor gives it night vision capabilities, too.

Travelling at a maximum speed of 110 km/h, significantly enhances the mobility of the foot soldiers. While the jeep has a manual gear, the LSV has an automatic gear, so the important difference is the engine never dies.

It is easy to operate; it requires only two months to train a soldier to handle the equipment effectively. Now on wheels, our soldiers can bring heavier and better firepower systems into operations.

The LSV is light, but it is deadly and ready to strike. With its acquisition, our Guardsmen will move faster than never before, with more potent firepower.
