Hendon Camp

From humble
beginnings in Pasir Laba Camp, Jurong, the Commandos
have moved on to an extensive compound in Changi,
known as Hendon Camp, which boasts amongst the most
comprehensive facilities in the Singapore Armed Forces.
Some highlights are a physical training complex, know
as the MPH or Multi-purpose Hall which is equipped
with an indoor and outdoor rockwall. Other special
facilities at the Hendon Camp are a full set of Airborne
Training simulators, an Airborne tower, a close quarter
battle building (CQB), a survival training village,
a High Confidence Course, and a Resource Centre.
FACILITIES AT HENDON CAMP
The Airborne Tower allows the mock-up training
for Airborne training, Freefall Training and Rappelling
which allows trainees to train under most realistic
situations.
The high Confidence Course is
the only facility of its kind in the SAF. It consists
of a total of 10 obstacles, which demands from every
commando a combination of strength, skill, agility
and a high degree of confidence in negotiating these
obstacles.
The Commando Resource Centre has the Field
Manuals and Formats of the SAF and other countries.
It also allows for internet assess and at the same
time is linked online to the SAFTI Military Institute
Library.
TThe
rockwall in Hendon Camp has given many the
opportunity to try out something different that combines
speed, agility and strength into a normal pastime....
climbing. There is an indoor rockwall in the Multi-purpose
and an external one as well.
The Commando Survival Training Village sets
the focus on the art on surviving independently in
the jungle. Basic skills are taught here.
Commando Heritage Room was officially opened by
Major-General Lim Neo Chian, at that time Chief of
Army, on 7th December 1994. It is the Commandos' own
'mini museum' and it will guide us through the evolution
of the nation's elite armed force till the present
day.
