Note on U.S. Training of Venezuelan
SOF: Some JCET groups
operating in Latin America and the Caribbean have
counternarcotics missions, as the following citation
from the U.S. State Department's 1998 International
Narcotics Control Strategy Report indicates in
the case of Venezuela:
[T]he US armed forces have conducted
16 joint exercises for training (JCET) with the
Venezuelan armed forces focused on improving capabilities
for planning, coordinating and conducting counternarcotics
operations. Riverine forces in particular are better
prepared, organized and focused to conduct interdiction
operations.
