Special Operations in Vietnam and Southeast Asia

U.S. Air Force

There were only two Special Operations squadrons doing any direct support of US Army units. Those were the 20th Helicopter Sq, later renamed the 20th Special Operations Squadron, and the 21st Helicopter Sq, also renamed the 21st Special Operations Squadron. The 20th does not yet have a web page for the Vietnam era.

The 20th had a detachment working out of Ban Me Thout, East Field along with the 155th AHC. They flew the UH-1F and UH-1P, call sign "Green Hornet". Other detachments worked in various places in South Vietnam until the CH-3's were moved to Udorn, Thailand to support operations in Laos.
