Zirje
Island, Croatia, Sept. 26, 2000 — Marines
of Battalion Landing Team 2/2's Golf Company launch
their Combat Rubber Reconnaissance Crafts (CRRCs)
from the well deck of USS Austin (LPD 4)
during an amphibious landing on Zirje Island,
Croatia. The raid is part of a bilateral training
exercise, Croatian Phiblex 2000, in which
Sailors and Marines of USS Austin (LPD
4), the 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit (Special
Operations Capable) and the Croatian military
are participating in the exercise designed to
improve the U.S. and Croatia's interoperability
by cross-training their military forces. This
is the first U.S./Croatian military exercise this
year.

Guam, May 2, 2000 — Aircrew Survival Equipmentman
1st Class Mitch MacKenzie of Philadelphia Penn.,
assigned to Explosive Ordnance Disposal Mobile
Unit Five (EODMU-5) free falls from a U.S. Air
Force C-130 Hercules during parachute certification
training. EODMU-5 is operating in Yigo, Guam,
in support of the multi-national, joint forces
training exercise, Tri-Crab 2000.

The
Red Sea, July 21, 2000 — Members of SEAL Team
Two (Echo Platoon) conduct room search and clearing
operations during a practice ship boarding and
take-down aboard USS Normandy (CG 60).
Personnel from SEAL Team Two are currently operating
with the aircraft carrier USS George Washington
(CVN 73) battle group. Note: Echo Platoon is
not a specialized VBSS unit, they are a regular
SEAL platoon, designated Echo.

Navy SEALs fast rope to the deck of the aircraft
carrier USS Enterprise (CVN 65) during
an exercise Nov. 21, 1998. Enterprise is
on a scheduled six-month Mediterranean and Arabian
Gulf deployment.

the legendary Navy frogmen of World War II, A
Navy diver attaches an inert satchel charge to
a moored training mine in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba,
as a second diver stands off. The divers were
conducting training in the waters near the Naval
Station Guantanamo Bay.

Yokosuka,
Japan, Nov. 6, 2000 — Chief Gunner's Mate
Peter A. Grubb of Glenville, Penn., and attached
to Explosive Ordnance Disposal Mobile Unit Five
(EODMU-5) makes final preparations to a mechanical
impact device before disposing of a vintage World
War II bomb during an exercise at the Command
Fleet Activities in Yokosuka. The impact device
will explode the bomb via remote control.

The
Indian Ocean, Oct. 6, 2000 — Gunnery Sergeant
Wilson attached to the 13th Marine Expeditionary
Unit (Special Operations Capable), leads one of
his Marines through a shooting course as he aims
in on target and prepares to fire aboard the amphibious
assault ship USS Tarawa (LHA 1). The 13th
MEU is conducting live-fire training exercises
aboard Tarawa.
