Captain Michael D. Geragosian
On December 10, 1999 Capt. Michael
D. Geragosian, USAF died in an aircraft accident as
a passenger on a C-130 landing at Al Jaber Airfield,
Kuwait.
Mike was in Special Operations as
a Special Operations helicopter pilot while stationed
at Eglin AFB, and flew Special Operations Missions
during Desert Storm Combat Operations. At the time
of his death he was assigned to the 66th Rescue Squadron,
Nellis Air Force Base, Nevada. His commanding officer
is Lt. Col. Joseph Callahan III.
He is survived by His wife, Dana Yancey
Geragosian and two sons, 2-year old Luke and 1-year
old Zachary, his mother, Bernice, sister, Carolynn,
and brother, Paul.
Following is the story of the accident, as reported
by the USAF.
WASHINGTON (AFPN) -- Three Air Force people died
as a result of injuries sustained when the C-130 Hercules
transport aircraft in which they were flying was damaged
attempting to land at a Kuwaiti air
base at 2:50 a.m. (local Kuwait time) Dec. 10. Seventeen
more AF members were injured in the incident. The aircrew
aborted the landing and diverted for an emergency landing
at Kuwait City International Airport. Eighty-six passengers
and eight crewmembers were aboard.
Killed were: Capt. Michael D. Geragosian, 66th Rescue
Squadron, Nellis Air Force Base, Nev.; Airman 1st
Class Benjamin T. Hall, 90th Transportation Squadron,
F.E. Warren AFB, Wyo.; and Airman 1st Class Warren
T. Willis, 55th Transportation Squadron, Offutt AFB,
Neb.
Twelve of the injured were treated in local hospitals
and released. Still hospitalized are: 1st Lieutenant
Michael J. Jones, 314th Comptroller Squadron, Little
Rock AFB, Ark.; Master Sgt. Allen E. Alston, 20th
Equipment Maintenance Squadron, Shaw AFB, S.C.; Tech.
Sgt. Eugene A. Mellott, 43rd Communications Squadron,
Pope AFB, N.C.; Senior Airman Trebor A. Merriman,
37th Transportation Squadron, Lackland AFB, Texas;
Airman 1st Class Andrew C. Doss, 43rd Supply Squadron,
Pope AFB.
The C-130, assigned to the 61st Airlift Squadron,
Little Rock Air Force Base, Ark., was carrying U.S.
military personnel to locations throughout Kuwait
when the aircrew declared an in-flight emergency.
A board of officers is convening to investigate the
incident.
