The 720th Special Tactics Group (STG) is an intregal
part of the Air Force Special Operations Command and
is headquartered at Hurlburt
Field, FL . The group is comprised of over
800 Combat Control ,
Pararescue, Combat
Weather and support personnel. The USAF
STARS (U.S. Air Force Special Tactics And Rescue
Specialists) Command Parachute Team also "falls"
under the 720 STG.
Mission...
The mission is to organize, train and equip Special
Tactics forces worldwide to establish and control
the air-ground interface in the objective areas. It
also provides long-range operational and logistics
planning and deploys command and control elements
during Special Tactics force employment or deployment.
Lastly, it functions as the command's proponent for
military parachuting, diving, and other Special Tactics
related matters.

Units...
The group is composed of a headquarters staff and
five units in the continental United States: the 10th
Combat Weather Squadron (CWS) at Hurlburt Field, FL,
the 21st Special Tactics Squadron (STS)
at Pope AFB, NC, the 22 nd STS at McChord AFB,
WA, the 23rd STS at Hurlburt Field, FL,
and the 24th STS at Fort Bragg, N.C. In
addition, the group is responsible for functional
management of AFSOC's two overseas Special Tactics
squadrons: the 320 th STS, under the command
of the 353rd Special Operations Group,
Kadena Air Base, Japan, and the 321st STS,
under the command of the 352nd Special
Operations Group, RAF Mildenhall, United Kingdom.

The Special Tactics motto is a combination of the
combat control and pararescue mottos: "First
there . . . that others may live."
