Welcome to 3d FORECON CO/4TH SCAMP's home page. This section will provide a quick overview of the activities of Reserve Marines in the Mobile Area. They continuously need good MOS 0321/8654 Reconnaissance Marines and/or prior service Active Duty or SMCR ground MOS Marines that want to become 0321 for the Force Recon Company and 03xx/8621 Sensor operators for SCAMP. They also recruit Prior Service non 03xx's for both commands. The FORECON CO applicant will need to pass a 1st class PFT, and a 1st class swim qualification in order to become a 0321 Recon Marine. The SCAMP Unit will require their Marines to attend the Remote Sensor Course (4 weeks in Dam Neck, Va) to gain the 8621 MOS

Unit Mission

3rd Force Reconnaissance Company: To conduct pre-assault and distant post-assault reconnaissance in support of a landing force. In addition, the company possesses the capability to perform the following tasks: Engage the enemy by supporting arms, Implant sensors, Capture selected prisoners, Conduct initial terminal guidance operations, Conduct specialized terrain reconnaissance, Conduct special missions requiring the use of entry capabilities.

4th SCAMP: Plan, control, and manage the employment of unattended ground sensor equipment in support of a MAGTF or other commands as directed.

May 15, 1950 Authorized activation of "C", 10th Amphibious Tractor Battalion. Pinto Island, Mobile Bay, Mobile, AL
July 1, 1960 Redesignated 1st Reconnaissance Company, USMCR
July 1, 1962 Redesignated 3rd Force Reconnaissance Company.
Feb. 1, 1967 Redesignated 13th Force Reconnaissance Company. Following Vietnam Conflict the unit was redesignated to Det 4th Force Reconnaissance Company.
Jan. 1, 1983 Redesignated 3rd Force Reconnaissance Company.
Nov. 27, 1990 3rd Force Reconnaissance Company (-) was mobilized in support of Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm.
Apr. 11, 1991 3rd Force Reconnaissance (-) was demobilized and returned to the home training center in Mobile.
 

4th Sensor Control
and Management Platoon

Oct. 1, 1986 4th Sensor Control and Management Platoon (SCAMP) was activated and co-located in Mobile with 3rd Force Reconnaissance Company.
Nov. 13, 1990 Det 1, 4th SCAMP was mobilized in support of Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm.
Dec. 3, 1990 Det 2, 4th SCAMP was mobilized in support of Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm.
Apr. 25, 1991 4th SCAMP, Dets 1 & 2, were demobilized and returned to the home training center in Mobile.
